AVG anti-virus update bug alert! Don't reboot.
Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 22:36 This just in from Mark Cobb at ComputerTechs:
Urgent Message about today’s AVG Anti-Virus automatic update
An AVG Anti-Virus update on the evening of December 1 has promted users to re-boot their computer. If your computer has Windows 7 or Windows Vista, DO NOT re-boot or turn-off your computer following the AVG update! Doing so will cause your computer not to start properly. It appears that the problem DOES NOT effect computers with Windows XP.
If your Windows 7 or Windows Vista computer will not start after the AVG update, your computer will boot into STARTUP REPAIR MODE. Choose the option to RESTORE YOUR COMPUTER TO A PREVIOUS DATE (SYSTEM RESTORE). From the list of restore points, pick a restore point before December 1 and follow the prompts.
AVG is aware of the issue and working on a fix. We will post further notifications on our Facebook page facebook.com/ComputerTechs, and send an e-mail to our mailing list when it is safe to restart your computer after the AVG update.
Thank you.
