Let's get ahead of the health care reform powercurve with prevention
Monday, August 10, 2009 at 20:09 “To date, prevention and public health have been the missing pieces in the national conversation about health care reform. It’s time to make them the centerpiece of that conversation. Not an asterisk. Not a footnote. But the centerpiece of health care reform.”
Sen. Tom Harkin, (D-Iowa)
As many experts have noted, we’re spending far too much toward the care of sickness rather than health. Our outcomes, whether or not we’re any healthier for it all, are abysmal. We come in behind Costa Rica and Columbia. And, we’re spending more than $2 trillion dollars ( 16.5 % of the GNP )now, annually, to get that failing grade. This isn’t the profile of a first rate, first world health care system.
