Stand up against intolerance and bigotry this Sunday
Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 17:02 According to Bob Fulkerson of PLAN, there have been some incidents of ignorant, bigoted graffiti - in an upscale Reno neighborhood - lately:
“Don’t burn the Koran. Why? Just burn Muslims.”
Apparently, local hate radio, KOH has been fanning these flames of intolerance. My guess is that kids didn’t write this. It’s not your usual tagging. It just sounds too ‘white adult male’.
The local Unitarians are trying to get people of tolerance together and stand up against this sort of hate, on Sunday in downtown Reno. I’m going to try to be there, and I hope you will, too.
This Sunday, September 19th at 4:00 p.m. Northern Nevada’s interfaith community will gather in Reno City Plaza at the corner of Virginia Street and First Avenue.
The hateful rhetoric and violence directed at American Muslims is simply unacceptable in a nation that holds interfaith cooperation, liberty and justice as core values.
We must take a strong stand and speak out.
As people of faith let’s join together this Sunday to clearly demonstrate our solidarity and
celebrate religious diversity and freedom and to combat religious discrimination .
We’re taking a stand against bigotry and for our American values. Our country and our faiths are stronger when we work together. The Rev. Neal T. Anderson
