Friday Fish Wrap: June 3, 2010

Men, you’ve gotta love this: It only took ten minutes for me to get Mr. Maven into the Patrick James store here in Reno, saw the right sport jacket on the mannequin, asked Mr. Maven if he liked it (nod in the affirmative),  picked a 42 Regular off the rack, told Mr. Maven to try it on (nod in the affirmative), told the man to hold it until it went on sale next week … and out the door.

    Badda bing, badda boom.

Walking out of the store, I said to Mr. Maven “didn’t I tell you that it would be painless?” He’s walking his daughter down the aisle on July 31st, and like other men who’ve been retired for uh, ‘a while’, he’s getting a bit low on sport jackets that fit around the middle. Hmmmm.

When we pick up the jacket, I’ll select the perfect tie and we’re good to go. I only wish the Mother of the Bride dress was as painless. Yikes.

Can you say Spanx to the Higher Power?

Breaking News: Glenn Beck Exposes Cynthia Ryan as Agent of Evil

Here is the incontrovertible proof - and worse yet, it brings the tragic Steve Fossett search into the mix. Apparently, the conspiracy extends to that! What was Fossett’s role in recruiting Ryan? How was Elvis involved?

Stay tuned for more on this breaking story.

    The Fossett Search never ends

Updated on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 11:55 by Registered Commentermavenandmeddler

Last week I got an email alerting me to the air date of the latest in what will certainly be just one more speculative television feature - ‘Lost in the Nevada Triangle’ - about what may or may not have happened to famed aviator Steve Fossett on the Labor Day weekend of 2007.

I thought briefly of letting my readers know, but held back.

I was a part of that story, and have had plenty of bitter first hand experience of just how badly wrong a seemingly innocent ‘interview’ for the ‘truth’ can go. It can turn out to be a career destroyer.

The rock star mojo is back: ITN and National Geographic come to Reno

The other day at work, LC asked me why I was being so agreeable about something or other.

“Where’s the rock star that I used to know?” she said, referring to the me of the Steve Fossett search, with my officious little face popping up all over the international media, giving them what for.

There was a bit of swagger in my step during those heady days, but time marches on.

I think I got just a tiny bit of the old mojo back on Sunday, when a film crew from London’s ITN came to town.

The search for Steve Fossett: Will it never end?

Well, well, well. That was certainly an interesting version of Steve Fossett’s untimely demise, which premiered on Discovery Channel this evening. The only part that I couldn’t quibble with, having been so much a part of that bit of history, is that we may never know exactly what happened.

National Information Officers Association 2008 Conference, Reno, Nevada

Yes, they did indeed take pictures of the presentation about the Steve Fossett search that Trooper Chuck Allen and I did yesterday:

At the official Monday morning opening ceremonies were: NIOA President, Judy Pal, Reno Fire Chaplain Steve Arvin, Nevada First Lady, Dawn Gibbons, Reno Mayor Robert Cashell and Sparks Mayor Gino Martini.

First on the presentation bill was “Where is Steve Fossett?” presented by myself (Lt Col Cynthia S Ryan ) and Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol.

As I told Chuck afterward: “we’re still rock stars” (of PIOs that is)

    The Search for Steve Fossett

Well, the two compadres were back in the saddle again today, as Trooper Chuck Allen ( Nevada Highway Patrol Public Information Officer) and I ( the lead Public Information Officer for the Steve Fossett search of Sept. 2007) made the key note presentation at the 2008 National Information Officers Association national conference, held in Sparks, Nevada.

As I told Chuck afterward: ‘we’re still Rock Stars’ But truly, the morning that Trooper Allen walked in to the Command Post to offer me his help was the day I pulled triple 7’s ( it’s a Nevada thing ). I absolutely lucked out getting the best possible PIO help available for a search and media circus of that magnitude.

Needless to say, the presentation went very, very well indeed and we both received congratulations all around. Hopefully, somebody took a picture!
