I wish it really was just about health care

Mr. Maven decided that he wanted to weigh in on this volatile, and contentious topic:

The real issue is whether our elected politicians can even do the right thing for their country and constituents, or are they so deeply indebted to special insterest groups ( lobbyists ) for campaign contributions that they are held hostage by campaign contributions trumping ‘doing the right thing’.

Another way to phrase this: Are we still capable of self-governance? Or, have we thrown in the towel to mob rule driven by corporations and their shills from ‘K’ Street?

We have a leaderless political party (the GOP) , mistakenly referred to as ‘conservative’, that has only one agenda. It is to make certain the present administration fails, no matter the cost to society or country. I have not yet heard one solution or suggestion from these people. Just fault finding, outrageous deception and venomous lies

Late Breaking:Let's be clear about what the Canadian Health System is

In case you have friends that still don’t get it, here’s a news flash: the Canadian health care delivery ‘system’ is PRIVATE. Not that anybody in Congress has even come close to proposing such a system. Hear that? Can we quit chasing this red herring and get the real debate?

Private doctors deliver healthcare to patients just like here. The only difference is: the bill isn’t sent to the patient. It’s sent to the government. Apparently, a vocal minority of Americans - who have allowed themselves to be propagandized by the right - would rather get the bill and struggle to pay it.

Listen in and become better informed. Listen in and understand how the insurance industry and rightwing front groups have hi-jacked the debate with false stories about the Evil Canadian Health Sytem.

Howard Dean on single-payer healthcare

This is a segment well worth listening to, as it was presented on Democracy Now.

“I don’t give a damn about the health insurance people being in business or out of business. I want a system that works,” said Dean, physician, six-term Vermont governor, Democratic presidential candidate in 2004, and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
