    Monday Musings: June 7, 2010

Today was pretty darn good. Despite the winds, it was sunny and warm, and I ‘ve got to tell you … we’re ready for that around here. It’s been rainy and cold for far too long, and the weather really delayed a lot of my gardening plans.

Even my grape vines have leafed back out, and are producing - again - small clusters of grapes. This won’t be a banner year for grapes, but you’ve got to take those with the good ones.

I got tomatoes back into the front yard where they always produce big time, with the eastern exposure, while making up for lost time in the back around a trellis and patio table with shade loving plants, ground covers and mosses. Being a working ‘stiff’ all last summer took a toll on the yard.

Since this morning dawned brightly, I rolled out of the marital bed, into some jeans - with only one cuppa joe under my belt - to head over to the newest addition to the farmers’ market scene out here in South Suburban Reno.

No Iran hostage crisis for Obama administration

I’ll bet Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove are crying in their beer today over the diplomatic fait d’ accompli by Secretary of State Hilliary Clinton and the Obama administration in the pending release of Iranian-American journalist, Roxana Saberi.

After all, Rush told us all that he wishes failure for the Obama administration,

Oh, Yeah ... the more things change

And, you probably know the rest of that one. I was just going through “Oh, Yeah”, published in 1931 by Edward Angly, which is a collection of stunningly dimwitted statements by the oh-so-smart people of that day about the Great Depression. Recently, some wags in this century have combined it with some similarly foggy minded quips from some of our dippier ‘experts’.

Here are a few for your consideration:

The hills are alive - with the sound of kvetching and retching

Forgive my ‘Yiddish-isms’. That’s what happens when you grow up in or near Miami Beach. Kvetching means complaining. I think you know what retching refers to. But the media echo chamber is so alive with pain and angst over what Obama should do, hasn’t done, the way he done did it that I can’t hear myself think.

Notable examples: all the screaming heads on CNBC, and most notably Rick Santelli. The print media and blogosphere - liberal, centrist and right wingnut - has joined in as well, and then they’ve given far more attention than should be warranted to that bloated, self righteous, self important default leader of the GOP, Rush Limbaugh, that I feel like heading for the nearest emergency exit post haste.

Can we all back up and breathe, before we completely loose track of the real issues?

Friday Fish Wrap: March 6, 2009

Way back when - well this last summer actually when the markets started to show signs of something amiss, I boldly predicted to Mr. Maven that the market would go to 7,000 - to which I got the raised eyebrow and the piercing look over the tops of the glasses - that the classic airline captain “you just said what?” look. I was feeling pretty smug when whoops - it went to 6,500.

'D' for Duh: Bill O'Reilly predicts Titanic's sinking

“There is much irony in the fact that while liberals have won power in Washington big time, the left-wing media is collapsing all over the place. In the past couple of weeks, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Minneapolis Star Tribune and the mother of all liberal publications, the New York Times, all have issued SOS announcements.” Today’s column by Bill O’Reilly.

Wow, that’s astounding Bill - you’ve managed to connect the long standing financial crisis facing newspapers across the United States with ‘liberalism’ and the election of Obama. How do you ever find shirts and jackets with sleeveslong enough to accomodate that stretch?
