Friday Fish Wrap: January 29, 2010

We need more of this. A whole lot more. In the following video, you can watch President Obama got at it with his Republican opponents, in what feels more like the free for all type of debate we’ve watched in the Houses of Parliament.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

You can read the entire transcript here.

It’s time for Obama to stand up there and take his lumps and fight for whatever might be left of a Liberal - and no, that isn’t a dirty word - agenda. If I wanted him to take the easy road - to the center, AKA right - I would have voted for the other guy.

    Orrin Hatch speaks out. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

“If you can’t get 70 or 80 votes on a bill that affects one-sixth of the American economy, you know it is a lousy bill,” Hatch said on Fox News Channel Thursday morning. “This is a lousy bill that is going to cost American tax payers like mad for the rest of our lives, if they happen to pass it. I hope the American people rebel.”  Orrin Hatch, R-Utah

    Well, not exactly, Orrin.

This is why I support Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid

In these days of ideological posturing, obstructionism and a ‘citizens be damned’ attitude by those only in Congress to advance their careers and enlarge their wallets, it’s like a ray of warm sunshine when one of our politicians can stand up to an industry and do what is right.

Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, (D-NV) went before the Senate Judiciary Committee to testify on the Health Insurance Industry Antitrust Enforcement Act of 2009 (S. 1681), a bill of which Reid is an original cosponsor. The bill was introduced by one of my heros, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-VT.

The bill is described as: A bill to ensure that health insurance issuers and medical malpractice insurance issuers cannot engage in price fixing, bid rigging, or market allocations to the detriment of competition and consumers

    Damned straight!

Friday Fish Wrap: 17 July, 2009

This week’s Wrap begins with some thoughts from the road … as in bicycling along Reno’s beautiful backroads, and highways.

In as many weeks, I nearly bit the dust for a second time … uh, asphalt, actually, as a car pulled out in front of me. I had turned from McCarran, south on Talbot Lane. I saw the older man in the big SUV sitting in the driveway of some commercial offices on the right, preparing to enter the street.

As is my custom, I raised my hand in a friendly gesture, to indicate “I see you. Do you see me?”
