Live Free or Die: death by property tax in tax free New Hampshire

We just got off the phone with my husband’s cousin in Claremont, N.H. She was widowed about two years ago, and with the housing market collapse, can’t sell the beautiful home sitting on the north side of Green Mountain - with killer views and eight acres - if you’re interested ( click here). She’s also just scraping by with the help of family. It’s a long story.

Here’s the kicker: the house is priced at $379,000 with, as I said the eight acres and views. The property taxes are $8,000. That’s right.
