Zombies walk in the daylight. Tea Party religion eats another brain.

When Mr. Maven asked if there were any ‘good’ letters to the editor in todays’ Reno Gazette-Journal, I said, “oh yeah, here’s a goodie ….” then my eyes dropped to the name at the bottom.

    OMG. It’s our neighbor.

I said to Mr. Maven, it’s somebody you know, but I’ll read and you guess who.

I am a World War II veteran speaking for many other patriotic family members and friends who served America in the military to defend our freedoms. We stand for the moral standards espoused in the Bible for “God, Family and Country”!

I have worked with Sharron Angle in the Nevada Assembly for many years. Her family are patriots who live a moral lifestyle with the Bible as their guide. Sharron uses the Constitution of America as her guide in legislation. She is a God-fearing patriotic lady and a grandmother who honors her father (WWII vet) and mother. She is a great role model for her children and grandchildren!

    Monday Musings: February 15, 2010

For a Winter Olympics that got started on such a tragic note, the Vancouver games seem to have gotten their footing back. A horrible death, technical difficulties at the opening ceremonies, and a dearth of snow notwithstanding, everything has to be better from here on out. The U. S. Team has already set the bar higher, with their first ever medal in the Nordic Combined Event, a grueling display of skill and stamina in the combined ski jumping and cross-country.

Yea! Johnny Spillane took the Silver, and the Canadians finally took home a medal with a spectacular mogul run by Alexandre Bilodeux. The way too laid back Bode Miller finally woke up and took a Bronze home.

Here’s a weird place to start the week: in full agreement with Dick Cheney.

Apparently, Dick has a clue when it comes to DADT and gay marriage. If the people want it he’s for it. That couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the fact that his daughter is lesbian, could it? Another way to look at this: Dick doesn’t give a rats’ ass on social issues that don’t have anything to do with the bottomline.

The teabaggers should take a hint from this.

'Critical Condition': The human toll of America's health disaster

We just got done watching, with dismay and anger, Bill Moyers Journal. This weeks show followed several American’s through an unbelievably heart wrenching journey through illness without benefit of health insurance.

At the end of the shows online content, there are a lot of personal stories by others who were as moved as we were.

This isn’t rocket science, and it isn’t really news that this health care system is fatally flawed. A few years back, I was contacted by the then CEO of a local hospital to serve on their cancer committee, since I’d been an outspoken critic of the lack of up to date care for breast cancer patients in my community.

Friday Fish Wrap: May 15. 2009

Well this has been an interesting week. I’ll start my weekend having a cardiac catheterization - getting a very small camera shoved through a slit in my femoral artery into my heart. That’s why I got all my gardening done today - no lifting or exertion for a few days afterward. Thank heavens for cable, Kindle and Sudoku. Friday is National Bike to Work Day, and I’d participate but well….

The shoe is on the other foot now

It was so huge to be the sick one for more than a year and a half of cancer, and having my husband take constant care of me. I didn’t know quite how to express how much it meant. However, we’re turning the tables a bit right now and I get an opportunity to give back in a small way.
