Sex and drugs on the Playa: Burning Man offers a lot to think about
Monday, August 31, 2009 at 18:09 Mr. Maven and I stopped into Whole Foods this afternoon for a nosh, and had ample opportunity to observe the pilgrims hunting and gathering their way through one of the more upscale food emporiums on their way to the great flat playa for a week.
We weren’t in the best frame of mind about Burning Man, having just been to the airport to pick up frantic friends from out of state. They arrived here this morning to care for their son who’d been careflighted off the playa almost before the festivities had begun. This 21 year old was found by his friend, not breathing and not responsive yesterday afternoon. It was obviously a drug overdose.
He’s going to survive.
