Ann Onn moves to This is RENO

I was sorry to see my blogger friend, Ann Onn as in Ann Onn Everything end her blog, having moved on to something new. She was the first person to comment on my infant blog way back last fall. I was so jazzed that anybody was actually reading it, and she made great comments about the recipe I’d posted … ala Julie & Julia. I felt so cool. I was now a real blogger, since somebody knew I was there!

As the old year blended into the new, we jibbed and commented back and forth, keeping each other bucked up and honest, and lending support. Laurel, as Ann Onn is known in real life, got me to meet other area bloggers, told me who was who and what was what. To that end, she has moved on to a new venture that looks really intriguing.

This is RENO- A New Kind of News for the Truckee Meadows and Beyond - offers bloggers, writers, activists and others a very snazzy new venue and forum

Friday Fish Wrap: April 10, 2009

Do you have any idea what it’s like to come in, sit down and write a blog post … or two, or three, each and every day? There are days when you’re just briming with ideas and oodles of high dudgeon. There are days when you got exactly 4:15 hours of sleep the night before, for whatever reason and you feel just like you’ve been pulled through a knothole … backwards. Not, shall we say, a barrel of bubbling bloginess. Is that a word?

Then there are times like this evening. We were up at Russ’ place for dinner and watched a movie. “Marley and Me.”

Defense Secretary Gates: quit stealing our precious bodily fluids

I read, with all due alarm for our on-going national security, Ann Onn’s liberal screed in support of Obama’s Defense Secretary, Robert M. Gates proposed cuts in military spending. To support her arguement, she cites that bastion of all things liberal ( therefore obviously untrue ), The New York Times and then suggests we look at a speech by the late Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Major General Smedley Butler.

Adding insult to injury, Ann Onn describes true believing patriots as “dupes of the military-industrial complex”!

    You go, girl.

First date: Reno Blogger Dinner 3.0

Tonight was my first excursion into the larger blogosphere and it was right here in Reno, Nevada - right under my nose all the time. We met up at the Imperial Bar & Lounge on Arlington for food and general discussion on blogging. I want to thank Reno Baby host, Ryan Jerz for noticing me sitting cluelessly at the bar, upon arrival, and - being the classy gentleman that he obviously is - extended a howdy and invitation to their table.

Full disclosure: I don’t shine in gatherings like this.

The beginning of a beautiful friendship...

Well, my lunch at the Tamarack with Ann Onn, of Ann Onn Everything, wasn’t quite that dramatic - although it would have been too cool if it had - but it just might be the beginning of something quite interesting.

It was a real treat to finally meet up with one of my fellow bloggers face to face…. especially the one known only as Ann Onn ( ‘anon’ - get it?). I told her to wear a disguise - perhaps one of those ‘groucho’ eyeglass and nose jobs, but she decided to come disguised as herself instead. Perhaps the better choice, since she’s perfectly sweet, attractive and intelligent.

Extinction of the daily newspaper: why I do care

Checking in with the Reno area blogosphere this morning, I noted the following post on Ann Onn Everything about why she felt the time was getting near that she really could do without a daily newspaper. Her arguements are sound, as they should be from somebody who knows what’s what, with a degree in journalism. I can almost agree with her point by point.
