Campbell's gets a clue on healthy soups
Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 11:38 I get so frustrated with reaching for that can of ‘healthy’ soup, only to read the nutrition facts labeling and see sodium levels that are off the freaking chart, not to mention an ingredient list that sounds more like a science experiment.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the only food I should be eating is food with ingredients that my grandmother would have understood, and her native language was Swedish. It’s been a nice place to set the bar, easily eliminating the faux food that fills grocery store shelves today.
With some trepidation, and a lot of cynicism the other day, I picked up a can of Campbell’s Select Harvest canned soup. Hey, autumn is just around the corner and I love to be able to have a quick bowl of a satisfying soup for lunch. The nutrition and ingredients actually looked pretty darn reasonable, so the only question was taste. I’ve tried a lot of other ‘healthy’ and ‘natural’ soups only to be really disappointed in the flavor department. Bland didn’t begin to describe them. I can always gussy them up myself, but really, why should I have to do that?

The Campbell’s Select Harvest Italian Wedding Style soup is good just the way it came from the can. I didn’t have to do a darn thing to it. I’ve purchased a few of the other flavors and will try them as time go along, and will let you know what I think. For now, give them a try. They’re not homemade but made good for a canned soup.
